What does Islam say about Christmas?

What is Christmas?

To a community of Christians, Christmas has two parts, Christ + Mas.  Christ is the son of Rob mas is the birthday.  Christmas means the birthday of Rob’s son.

To another sect of Christians, Christmas is the birthday of the Lord.

Christians celebrate Christmas on 25th December.  This Christmas is a religious event for Christians.

Christ is the title of Jesus (PBUH).  That is, Christians celebrate the birthday of Hazrat Jesus (PBUH) on 25th December.  It is a pity that Muslims are not behind in celebrating this Christmas.

Although Christians celebrate the birthday of Jesus (pbuh) on this day, there are differences of opinion regarding the date of birth of Jesus (pbuh).  Many say 25th December and many say 7th November.

What does Islam say about Christmas?

Originally Christmas was a sarcastic (sirik) word.  Because Christmas means Lord’s birthday or the birthday of Lord’s son.

 The Qur’an has -Al-Ikhlas 112:3

 لَمْ يَلِدْ ۙ وَلَمْ يُوْلَدْ ۙ

He gave birth to no one and He was not born.  (Ikhlas, verse-3)

Who is Jesus?  Who are the parents of Jesus?

Jesus is the messenger of God.  In the Qur’an there is-

 Al-Ma’idah 5:75

 مَا الۡمَسِیۡحُ ابْنُ مَرْیَمَ اِلَّا رَسُوۡلٌ

Maryam-born Messiah is only a messenger.

Indeed, they have disbelieved who say, “Indeed, Allah is the third of three.”  Although there is no (true) God but One God.  And if they do not desist from what they say, surely a painful punishment will touch the disbelievers from among them.

Who are the parents of Jesus?  How was he born-

By the power of God, Hazrat Isa (AS) was born without a father.

When Allah gave the good news of the birth of Jesus to Maryam (A.S.), she was bewildered and said to Allah, ‘O Allah, how will I have a child;  No man touched me.  Allah said, This is how Allah creates whatever He wills.  When He wills to do something, He says, Be it, so it is done. (Al-Imran: 47)

Who is the bearded man (Santa Claus)?

The red-robed white-bearded old man we know today as Santa Claus is a complete fabrication.  Originally the name of Santa Claus was Saint Nicholas.  He was a follower of Christianity.  Saint Nicholas was the possessor of great wealth.  He used to help the poor.  He was affectionate towards children.  And he used to invite his religion.  Saint Nicholas dedicates himself to religion  After Saint Nicholas died, he was renamed Santa Claus.  Santa Claus means monk.

What about christmas tree?

The decorated tree we see has nothing to do with Jesus.  The people of Northern Europe believed that planting this evergreen fir in the house would ward off evil spirits.  From there, the tradition of decorating the Christmas tree began.

Do we celebrate Christmas?

There are only two celebrations for Muslims.  Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha.  In these two Eids, decoration, good food, exchange of gifts is allowed in Islam.

Besides, it is not permissible to celebrate any festival of other religions.  Moreover, Christmas means the birthday of Rab’s son/Rabb’s birthday which is shirk to observe.  And the poets of shirk are sins.
